Nusa Penida sits just a 30-minute fastboat ride from Sanur, yet it feels a world away from Bali’s busy south. Rugged cliffs, turquoise coves and some of the best snorkelling in Indonesia make it a bucket-list day trip.
Getting there Fastboats depart Sanur throughout the morning and take around 30–45 minutes. Book a return crossing in advance during peak season (July–August) — seats sell out fast.
The west-coast icons Most first-timers head straight for the west coast: Kelingking Beach (the "T-Rex" cliff), Angel’s Billabong and Broken Beach are within a short drive of each other and make an easy half-day loop.
- Start early to beat the tour crowds at Kelingking.
- Wear proper shoes — the paths are steep and uneven.
- Bring cash for parking and small entry donations.
Snorkelling with manta rays The waters off Manta Point are home to resident manta rays year-round. A guided boat snorkel is the safest way to see them, and operators know exactly where to find the cleaning stations.
Give yourself a full day, keep the itinerary loose, and Nusa Penida will reward you with the most dramatic scenery in the Bali region.
