History

Bali Botanic Garden was officially established on 15 July 1959 as the first botanical garden established by Indonesia outside Java. It was created with the purpose of conserving Indonesian plant species, supporting botanical research, education, and introducing the importance of plant conservation to the public.

The garden was initially developed in the Bedugul highlands because the cool climate and natural environment were suitable for many types of highland plants. Over the years, its collection and facilities continued to grow, making it an important center for plant conservation and botanical research in Indonesia.

Today, Bali Botanic Garden is managed by the National Research and Innovation Agency of Indonesia (BRIN) and continues to play an important role in plant conservation, education, research, and ecotourism.
