Candidasa Beach – Description & Story

Description

Candidasa Beach is a peaceful coastal destination located on the eastern coast of Bali. Unlike the island's busy tourist areas, Candidasa offers a calm atmosphere with beautiful ocean views, gentle sea breezes, and a relaxing ambiance. The area is surrounded by luxury resorts, local restaurants, and traditional Balinese villages, making it an ideal destination for travelers seeking tranquility and authentic Balinese culture.

Although the beach features a mix of volcanic sand and rocky shoreline, its crystal-clear waters are perfect for snorkeling, diving, and fishing. Candidasa is also a popular gateway to nearby attractions such as the Blue Lagoon, Virgin Beach, and the Gili Islands.

Story / History

Candidasa was once a small fishing village known as Teluk Kehen. The area later became famous for the ancient Lotus Lagoon, located in the heart of the village, beside the sacred Pura Candidasa Temple. The temple is dedicated to Dewi Hariti, the goddess of fertility and prosperity, who is respected by local Balinese Hindus.

The name "Candidasa" is believed to have evolved from "Candi Dasa" or "Candi Candidasa," referring to the temple and its spiritual significance. During the 1970s and 1980s, Candidasa gradually developed into one of Bali's first seaside tourism destinations, attracting visitors looking for a peaceful alternative to the crowded southern beaches.

Today, Candidasa remains a hidden gem where visitors can experience Bali's natural beauty, rich culture, and relaxing coastal lifestyle while exploring some of the island's best diving and snorkeling spots.
