Story & History

The story of Bali Botanic Garden began on July 15, 1959, when it was established as a center for conserving tropical mountain plants in eastern Indonesia. Originally known as Eka Karya Botanic Garden, the name "Eka Karya" means "the first work" or "the first achievement," symbolizing Bali's first botanical garden dedicated to protecting the island's rich plant diversity.

Nestled on the slopes of Bedugul, the garden was carefully developed to preserve endangered plant species while providing a place for scientific research and environmental education. Over the decades, it has grown into one of Indonesia's most important botanical gardens, attracting researchers, students, and nature lovers from around the world.

Today, Bali Botanic Garden is much more than a collection of plants. It is a peaceful sanctuary where visitors can reconnect with nature, breathe in the cool mountain air, and learn about the incredible biodiversity of Indonesia. Whether you're admiring the vibrant orchid collection, walking beneath towering rainforest trees, or enjoying the serene atmosphere, every visit offers a refreshing escape from the busy tourist areas of Bali.

Bali Botanic Garden is a perfect destination for anyone seeking tranquility, natural beauty, and a deeper appreciation of Indonesia's remarkable botanical heritage.
