History
Mount Bromo is named after Brahma, the Hindu god of creation, reflecting the deep cultural and spiritual significance of the mountain to the Tenggerese people, who are descendants of the ancient Majapahit Kingdom. For centuries, the Tengger community has considered Mount Bromo a sacred place.
Every year, the Tenggerese celebrate the Yadnya Kasada Festival, a traditional ceremony in which offerings such as fruits, vegetables, rice, and livestock are thrown into the crater as an expression of gratitude and prayers for safety, prosperity, and a good harvest. This unique tradition continues today and attracts visitors from around the world, making Mount Bromo not only a natural attraction but also a cultural and spiritual landmark of Indonesia.
