Pura Saraswati, also known as the Saraswati Temple, is one of Ubud's most iconic cultural and spiritual landmarks. Located in the heart of Ubud, the temple is dedicated to Dewi Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of wisdom, knowledge, arts, and learning.
The temple is best known for its breathtaking lotus pond, elegant Balinese architecture, and beautifully carved stone gates. History
Pura Saraswati was built in the early 1950s under the patronage of the royal family of Ubud. The temple was designed by the renowned Balinese artist and architect I Gusti Nyoman Lempad, whose artistic vision is reflected in the temple's intricate carvings and graceful design.
The temple was constructed as a place of worship dedicated to Dewi Saraswati, who is highly respected in Balinese Hinduism as the source of wisdom, creativity, and education. Every 210 days, according to the Balinese Pawukon calendar, Hindus celebrate Hari Raya Saraswati, a special ceremony to honor the goddess. On this sacred day, books, scriptures, and learning materials are blessed as symbols of knowledge and enlightenment.
