Subak Juwuk Manis is a peaceful and picturesque rice-field area located just north of Jalan Kajeng in Ubud, Bali. Surrounded by lush green rice terraces, tropical vegetation, and a calm rural atmosphere, it offers visitors a refreshing escape from the busy streets of Ubud. The area is especially popular for walking and trekking, allowing visitors to experience Bali’s traditional countryside while enjoying beautiful views of the rice fields. Subak Juwuk Manis covers approximately 90 hectares and is managed by the local community.
🏛️ History
Subak Juwuk Manis is part of Bali’s traditional Subak irrigation system, an ancient community-based system used by farmers to manage and distribute irrigation water to rice fields. The Subak system has existed in Bali for more than a thousand years, with historical evidence dating back to the 9th–11th centuries. It is closely connected to Tri Hita Karana, the Balinese philosophy emphasizing harmony between humans, nature, and the spiritual world.
Today, Subak Juwuk Manis continues to represent the living agricultural and cultural traditions of Bali. Its combination of traditional farming, beautiful landscapes, and peaceful walking trails makes it a unique destination for visitors who want to experience the quieter and more authentic side of Ubud.
